Homer G. Cheffy


BARNESVILLE — Homer G. Cheffy, 97, of Barnesville, died Friday at his home.

He was born Oct. 20, 1903, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Homer G. and Mary Jane (Barkhurst) Cheffy.

Mr. Cheffy was retired vice president and cashier of the First National Bank of Barnesville. He served as business manager for Barnesville Medical Center from 1976-1984.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Friendship Lodge 89 F&AM of Barnesville.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Aladdin Temple and BE1-Mon Osiris Shrine. He was a charter member of Elks Lodge 1699, Barnesville and was active in many community organizations including village council and the park board.

He was inducted into the Barnesville Area Education Foundation Hall of Fame in 1999.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Esther (Hasbrouck) Cheffy; three brothers, Windsor, George and William Cheffy; three sisters, Helen Lovejoy, Miriam Cheffy and Lucy Ruhl.

He leaves two sons, Frederick H. Cheffy of Severna Park, Md. and John H. Cheffy of Barnesville; a daughter, Phoebe Deyo Linnabary of Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. David McKinnon officiating. BPOE Lodge 1699 will have services at 5:30 p.m. and Friendship Lodge 89 F&AM will have services at 5:45 p.m., both today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Southern Cemetery, Barnesville.
