John H. Daniels


BARNESVILLE — John H. Daniels, 73, of Barnesville, died Sunday at Barnesville Hospital.

He was born July 28, 1927, in Barnesville, son of the late Harry and Holdred (Dewar) Daniels.

Mr. Daniels was a retired estimator for the former Smith Lumber Co. of Barnesville and was a former building contractor. He retired as a union carpenter for Mansfield Local 735 and Wheeling Local 3.

He was the owner of a golf club repair shop at his home and was an avid golfer.

He was past master of Friendship Masonic Lodge 89 of Barnesville and a member of Scottish Rite of Cambridge. He was past commander, trustee and treasurer of Barnesville American Legion Post 168. He was a member of Barnesville VFW Post 2792.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Pete (Martha) Clear.

He leaves his wife, Elaine Murphy Martin Daniels; three daughters, Polly G. Collins of Marietta, Mrs. Donald (Sue) Bissell of Portsmouth and S. Jean Daniels of Barnesville; a son, John Russell (Jax) Daniels of Seattle, Wash.; a step-son, Dennis L. (Betty) Martin of Barnesville; seven grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; two step-great-granddaughters; a sister, Virginia Wise of Newark; a brother, Paul D. Daniels of Barnesville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Gene Miller officiating. Friendship Masonic Lodge services will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville. Full military graveside services will be conducted by Belmont County Council American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barnesville Hospital or the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library.
