Dorothy Mary Fisher Giffen


BETHESDA — Dorothy Mary Fisher Giffen, 87, of Bethesda, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital.

She was born March 1, 1913, in Barnesville, daughter of the late Park Edson Fisher and Minnie Foreman Fisher.

She was a retired elementary school teacher for the Union Local School District and Belmont County Schools; a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church; and a member and past worthy matron of Hazen Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Giffen; a brother, Harold Fisher; two sisters, Audrey Fisher Hagan and Inez Fisher Stahl.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. David (Jane) Blaney of Bethesda, and a son, James (Martha) Giffen of Bellaire; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may call at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Bethesda, Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Rick Burkhardt and the Rev. Doug Lynn officiating.

Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church.
