George Gardner


BARNESVILLE — George Gardner, 88, of Barnesville, died Saturday at Camden Clark Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.

He was born July 15, 1912, in Ansburry, Pa., son of the late James and Eva (Butterbaugh) Gardner.

Mr. Gardner retired from Consolidated Coal Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was a member of United Mine Workers Local 1473; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 626, Bellaire; American Legion Post 77, Neffs; the Rod and Gun Club, Neffs, and a life member of DAV.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Airetta J. (Carpenter) Gardner; and three sisters, Minnie Zeman, Dorothy Kleg and Elizabeth Slacker.

He leaves a son, James R. (Jo Ellen) of Belpre; and two granddaughters, Lauren Ellen and Amber Kristen Gardner.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be 11 a.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville. Military graveside services will be conducted by Belmont County Veterans Council.
