Dora Tolbert Kirk


Mrs. Dora Kirk, 85, Passed Away Tuesday

Dora Tolbert Kirk, age 85, died Tuesday evening, March 8, at 11:30 at the McCarthy Nursing Home in St. Clairsville. Mrs. Kirk had been in ill health for several years and seriously ill the past three weeks. She was a daughter of Berkley Fenton and Minerva Milleson[sic] Tolbert and was born on a farm near the Bethesda-Barnesville road, September 19, 1869 near Ebenezer Cemetery.

On March 7, 1906 she was united in marriage to James William Kirk by the Rev. Harry Patterson, pastor of the Christian church where she had been a member of Cove Christian Church, transferring there in 1921. Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by her husband, June 12, 1947. Mr. Kirk will be remembered as a veteran steel worker and worked various places over the country before joining the Weirton Steel Co., in 1913 where he worked the balance of his life. Surviving are two sons, Harry and Warren of Weirton, two step-children, Walter Kirk of Aliquippa, Pa., and Mrs. Helen Porterfield of Bridgeport, one brother, Ross Tolbert of Bethesda and two grandsons.

Friends are being received at the Steele & Wolfe Funeral Home in Weirton where services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock, with Rev. C.F. Evans, pastor of the Christian church officiating. Burial will be made in Ebenezer cemetery at Bethesda.
