William Robert "Buckeye" Smith


BARNESVILLE — William Robert “Buckeye” Smith, 76, of Barnesville, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) at his home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Barnesville, son of the late George E. and Hazel B. (Connell) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a Protestant by faith. He was a retired carpenter and mason, having worked for area contractors for many years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 100th infantry division, having served in World War II.

He was a member of Barnesville VFW Post 2792 and Barnesville American Legion Post 168.

He leaves his wife, Martha (Kearns) Smith; a sister, Eileen McLaughlin of Sistersville, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews; a special granddaughter, Lori Keylor, who is serving in the U.S. Navy.

Graveside services and burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville, with the Rev. Gene Miller officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by Belmont County Council VFW.
